Garachico

Why is it called Garachico?

In previous posts we told the story of Garachico, but not its name.

Apparently, the name of the municipality refers to the Roque:

Guanche word root Igara or Gara (island, rock, boulder) + chico = Garachico

What is clear is the identification of Garachico as coming from the Canarian aboriginal languages, since this toponym is documented in the same way in two Canary Islands; on La Palma and Tenerife.

So yes, what gives the name to the municipality is El Roque.
